Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, May 8 / Trend H. Hasanov /

The deputy hakim (governor) of the city of Garabogaz in the Balkan velayat (region) in Turkmenistan Ahmet Annamuhammedov was dismissed for shortcomings in his work, the Turkmen President's promulgated decree says.

Garabogaz city is located along the Gulf of Kara-Bogaz-Gol, near the shores where valuable kinds of chemical raw materials, such as sodium sulphate and Glauber's salt are mined. The development of the richest deposits of the bay, the seabed and the water which contain virtually all the elements of the periodic table is undertaken by the Garabogazsulfat industrial association.

As reported earlier, the infrastructure of the country's chemical industry will be expanded through the development of commercially viable mineral deposits such as hard ores and minerals. In particular, it is planned to modernise the plants producing finished products by processing the hydro resources of the gulf's salt water used for medicinal purposes.

The Gulf of Kara-Bogaz-Gol is of transport importance as well. It was reported in late April that the country's Communications Ministry has laid a trunk cable with total length of 238 kilometres from Turkmenbashi to the Garabogaz border checkpoint as part of the project for laying fibre-optic communication lines to the borders of Kazakhstan. Export pipelines are being laid in the direction of Garabogaz.

The gradual reconstruction of the Central Asia-Centre-3gas pipeline is currently underway. In particular, the State Concern Turkmennebitgazgurlushik has remodelled more than 160 kilometres on the Korpeje-Belek pipeline's route from the beginning of the year. Currently, work is continuing on Belek-Garabogaz.

The experts note there is a branch of the export gas pipeline to Russia from the Belek station. Belek will also be the end point of the internal East-West pipeline originating from the Shatlyk compressor station in the east where the strategic reserves of natural gas are located.
The pipeline will connect into a single ring all local gas networks and create a common system for the output of Turkmen energy resources to international markets including Russia and Europe. The commissioning of the gas pipeline is planned for 2015.
