Japan’s Sumitomo constructing power plant in Turkmenistan

Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation is constructing a gas turbine power plant in the Turkmen Lebap province, Shiro Nishioka, spokesman for Sumitomo Corporation, said in an interview with Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
According to the message, the gas turbine power plant will be situated on an area of more than four hectares.
The plant is planned to be commissioned in 2018 and all generated electricity will be exported to Afghanistan, the message said.
"This is our first contract on the construction of a large-scale power plant in Turkmenistan,” Nishioka added. “So, we are dealing with this project with great responsibility."
According to the message, Turkish Rönesans construction company and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, which will supply three gas turbine power units, became subcontractors of the project.
