Turkmenistan’s GDP grows 6.2% since early 2017

GDP growth rate in Turkmenistan amounted to 6.2 percent in January-April 2017, the country’s president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a government meeting, Turkmenistan State News Agency reported.

The growth rate has increased by 2.1 percent in the industrial sector, 4.3 percent – construction, 10.8 percent – transportation and communication sector, 10 percent – trade, 3.5 percent – agriculture and 10.7 percent – sphere of services, the Turkmen president said.

Berdimuhamedov noted that construction of about 1,900 large facilities, which costs $45 billion, is underway in Turkmenistan.

The market economy is being formed, oil and gas fields are being developed, construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline is underway, the Turkmen president said.

Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of the volume of natural gas and has opportunities to export it to China and Iran.

Ashgabat chose a course to diversify the local economy. The textile industry, as well as the area of petroleum products, advanced. The oil, gas and chemical industry and the production of building materials are being actively developed.
