Turkmenistan exporting polymer products

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, Nov. 15

By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:

Some 67,981 tons of various types of polyethylene and 12,673 tons of polypropylene have been produced at a gas-chemical complex in Kiyanly settlement of Turkmenistan’s Balkan province since early 2019, a source involved in the Turkmen oil and gas complex told Trend.

The plant’s products are in great demand on the world markets and the demand has been constantly growing.

The plant was commissioned in 2018. Its capacity is 386,000 tons of polyethylene and 81,000 tons of polypropylene per year.

The corresponding project worth $3.4 billion has been implemented by LG and Hyundai together with Japanese TOYO company. The plant was built on the basis of licensed technologies of Ineos (the Netherlands), Greas (the US) and Toyo (Japan).

Granulated polypropylene is used in the production of polymer films, artificial fiber, thermoplastic and, accordingly, all kinds of polymer products. Polyethylene may be also exported.

It is possible to arrange the production of various pipes and consumer goods on its basis. High density polyethylene is a solid, durable and rigid thermoplastic.

Moreover, it is planned to build a gas-chemical complex for the production of polypropylene, linear low density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, as well as caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, and liquid chlorine in Kiyanly settlement of Turkmenistan.

Another project is being implemented to build a plant for the production of methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) in Kiyanly settlement by processing 4,000 tons of ethylene gas and 2,000 tons of methanol per year.

The products of neighboring gas chemical complexes will be used as raw materials at these plants.
