ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, February 16. Natural gas production at the Malai field in Turkmenistan, operated by the Lebapgazchykarysh division of the state-owned Turkmengas corporation, reached 444.4 million cubic meters in January 2025, exceeding planned targets by 8 percent, an official source told Trend.

In total, over 5.47 bcm of gas was extracted from the Malai field in 2024. A significant portion of the extracted gas was directed to the Turkmenistan-China pipeline. About 5.8 bcm of gas was transported via the 188 km long Malay-Bagtyyarlyk high-pressure gas pipeline in 2024, which exceeded the annual plan by 25.7 percent.

This achievement was attributable to the efficient utilization of existing fields and the development of new fields. In particular, a gas compressor station was commissioned at the Malai field, while ongoing workover of existing wells and exploration of new gas-bearing areas contributed to the success.

A recent breakthrough came in September 2024, with the discovery of a new gas field at the Tachmyradov site in the Chardjev district. Specialists from the Lebapnebitgazgözleg expedition of Turkmengeology drilled a well at a depth of 2,500 meters, uncovering a large natural gas reserve. The capacity of the new field stands at 389,000 cubic meters of gas daily.
