Uzbekistan, Malaysia mull bilateral relations

The Uzbek Foreign Ministry has today hosted a meeting with Malaysian Ambassador Abdul Aziz Bin Harun, the ministry reported. The Uzbek-Malaysian diplomats discussed the current state and perspectives of the bilateral relations.

The meeting stressed a mutual interest in deepening the multi-faceted bilateral relations, in which the interstate, intergovernmental contacts play a key role.

The sides named development of the cooperation in trade and investment areas as a priority. The meeting made a special emphasis on the Uzbekistan-Malaysia joint trade committee established in 2005. Despite the significant growth of bilateral trade in 2010, the parties believe the existing potential of cooperation is not yet exhausted.

Today, some 20 joint ventures, of which 3 -with complete Malaysian capital, operate in Uzbekistan, particularly in the oil and gas industry, manufacture of textiles, furniture and electrical products.

The meeting also discussed other issues of the Uzbek-Malaysian cooperation in bilateral and multilateral formats.
