Seven people were killed and more than ten people received injuries of various degrees of severity as a result of road accident in Uzbekistan, a source in the country's traffic police told Trend on Friday.

According to a source, a 20-ton cement turn overturned at the Kamchik pass connecting the Ferghana Valley with the rest of Uzbekistan.

A special commission has been set up to investigate the case.

According to preliminary data, the cement truck's brake failed at the slope, it overturned, crushing down a few cars.

It was reported earlier that Uzbekistan refused to transport goods to the Ferghana Valley via railway through Tajikistan. Since January 2010 transportation of goods to this region is made via A-373 road, through the strategically important Kamchik pass, located at 1,200 meters above sea.

Movement of trucks with an operational period of more than 25 years over the Kamchik pass will be banned since October 1, the movement of trucks with an operational period of more than 20 years will be prohibited as from July 1, 2014 and with an operational period of more than 15 years after July 2016.

At present, Uzbekistan has started the reconstruction of a 74-kilometer stretch of Tashkent-Osh highway (from 116 to 190 km), running through the Kamchik mountain pass worth $211.3 million.

During the reconstruction it's planned to replace two-lane asphalt pavement with a four-lane cement concrete pavement.
