Uzbekistan's permanent population increased in 2013 by 1.7 percent and according to preliminary data, stood on January 1, 2014, at 30,488,600, Uzbek State Statistics Committee told Trend on March 6.

The committee said Uzbek cities are home to15, 552,800 people, while the rural population number stands at 14,935,800 (51 percent and 49 percent, respectively).

674,900 births and 145,000 deaths were recorded in the country in January-December, 2013.

In 2013 there were 303,700 marriages and 24,000 divorces versus 299,100 marriages and 17,900 divorces in 2012.

The number of migrants in Uzbekistan stood at 153.800 (169,100 last year), while the number of people who have left the country was 188,700 (208,800 last year), according to preliminary data. The migration balance was minus 34.900 people compared to minus 39.7.00 in 2012.

In 2013 the number of employed people in Uzbekistan's economy increased by 2.5 percent, reaching 12,523,300, according to the committee
