Uzbek President Islam Karimov received the U.S First Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, who paid a working visit to Tashkent, the presidential press service said on May 8.

The sides stressed the ongoing dynamics of bilateral cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian and other fields of mutual interest during the recent meeting.

A systematic dialogue in various areas, including regular contacts at the level of the parliaments and foreign ministries of the two countries, allows the parties to establish fruitful and constructive cooperation.

During the meeting the sides also discussed the regional and international issues and exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan in the context of regional security and stability.

Particular attention was paid to the prospects of expanding the trade-economic and investment cooperation.

Burns reaffirmed the commitment of the U.S. government to further develop the relations with Uzbekistan in various fields.

Currently, some 190 enterprises, including 53 - with foreign capital are operating on the Uzbek market with the participation of U.S. companies. The representative offices of 40 leading U.S. corporations were accredited.

It was reported that during the visit U.S. Deputy Secretary of State met with Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov.
