Prospects for cross-border cooperation within the framework of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes of 1992, its roles in achieving sustainable development, implementation of other global initiatives for the period up to 2030 were considered at the meeting of the parties to the convention held in Budapest, the message of the Foreign Ministry of Uzbekistan said.

Election to the committee on implementation of the convention was held within the framework of the event.

The representative of Uzbekistan, a specialist in international water law Dinara Ziganshina, was elected a member of the Committee on the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (ECE).

The activity of Uzbekistan in the committee will provide an opportunity to work more closely with the UNECE within the framework of international legal mechanism based on the principled position of the republic for the rational and equitable use of water resources in Central Asia, according to the report.

The meeting was attended by representatives of 74 countries, as well as the European Commission, the European Economic Commission of the UN, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization, the UN Development Programme, the United Nations Environment Programme, the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development of the OSCE and other intergovernmental and public organizations, scientific circles.
