Uzbekistan eyes building new cement plant worth over $200M

Uzbekistan plans to build a new cement plant worth $203.9 million in 2017-2019, according to a decree of the country's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The plant will be built in the Bulakbashy settlement of the country’s Andijan region. Its estimated capacity will be 1.2 million tons of Portland cement per year.

The joint Uzbek-Chinese enterprise Shangfeng-Bridge of Friendship will carry out the plant's construction.

The project will be financed at the expense of foreign direct investment and loans worth $136.3 million, a loan of Uzpromstroybank JSCB worth $14.9 million, own funds of Shangfeng-Bridge of Friendship and additionally attracted foreign investments worth $52.7 million.

The Uzbek president provided tax and customs privileges to Shangfeng-Bridge of Friendship as part of the project implementation.

At present, seven cement plants with a total capacity of about nine million tons operate in Uzbekistan.
