Crop production up in Uzbekistan

Crop production in Uzbekistan in 2017 amounted to 46.891 trillion soums, which is 0.7 percent more than in 2016, according to preliminary information, the Uzbek State Statistics Committee said in a message posted on its website.

The share of crop production in the total agricultural production amounted to 69 percent, according to the message.

Growth in agricultural production in 2017 amounted to 1.9 percent compared to 2016. In 2017, the total volume of agriculture, forestry and fisheries products (services) was 69.504 trillion soums, or 102 percent to the corresponding period of 2016.

In 2017, potato production totaled 3.014 million tons (101.9 percent), the volume of vegetables harvested amounted to 11.434 million tons (101.4 percent), melons - 2.095 million tons (102.4 percent), fruit and berries – 3.076 million tons (101.1 percent), grapes – 1.749 million tons (100.8 percent).

In addition, more than 8.1 million tons of grain crops and more than 2.9 million tons of raw cotton were harvested.

Individual subsidiary farms remain the main producers; these farms produced 77.9 percent of the total volume of potatoes, 66.2 percent of vegetables, and 53.5 percent of fruits and berries in the period.

Also significant volume of grain was produced by farmers.
