New gold deposit with metal reserves found in Uzbekistan

A new gold deposit with metal reserves of 133 tons has been found in Uzbekistan, head of the main department for the development and reproduction of the mineral resource base (one of the structures of the State Committee for Geology of Uzbekistan) Asror Rustamov said at a press conference in Tashkent, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.

According to Rustamov, in 2020 several new deposits were registered throughout the country, noting the Chukurkuduk deposit with 133 tons of gold, as well as the deposit with estimated reserves of 70-80 tons, which were transferred to the state balance sheet.

He also said that next to the lead-zinc deposit in the Surkhandarin region (south of Uzbekistan), another polymetallic deposit, Chinorsoy, has been discovered. It is reported that its ore contains lead, gold, silver.

In addition, Rustamov said that to date, large reserves of tungsten have been registered at the Sary Kul deposit on the border of Samarkand and Kashkadarya regions.

"A large copper mine will also open soon in Almalyk. Here, more than 200,000 tons of copper reserves have been transferred to the operating state balance," the head of the main department for the development and reproduction of the mineral resource base said.

Currently, the annual volume of gold production in Uzbekistan is estimated at 100 tons. In 2019, this figure amounted to 88.5 tons. At the same time, gold exports in 2020 amounted to 100 tons against 110 tons in 2019.

According to the State Committee for Geology, Uzbekistan is one of the world leaders in gold reserves and resources (4th place in the world). The gold reserves in Uzbekistan as of January 1, 2018, were estimated by the department at 5,990 tons (C1 + C2).
