Agrological corridor may be opened between Uzbekistan and Russia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 8

Trend:

The Russian Export Center plans to launch a big project to create the Russia - Uzbekistan export-import agrological corridor to increase the volume of trade turnover between the countries through the support of the government of Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to the Uzbek media.

"An increase in export volumes is closely related to the development of logistics," Director General of the Russian Export Center Veronika Nikishina said. "The creation of wholesale distribution centers near major land and shipping interchanges, as well as near major facilities, will be especially effective. This will allow market participants to develop the most logistically and economically viable technology for delivering goods to the buyer and will contribute to the expansion of mutual trade."

Nikishina stressed that there are the reduced tariffs for railway transportation through Kazakhstan for refrigerated transportation, which can greatly increase the export of products, during the transportation of which the expiration dates must be taken into account.

The Russian Export Center is interested, together with the Russian Railways, to create a regular railway route to Uzbekistan for the transportation of agricultural products, where the warehouse infrastructure will be developed and the requirement for transportation, for example, compliance with the temperature regime, will be taken into account.

"Some 930,000 tons of products were exported from Russia to Uzbekistan in 2020, including supplies of sugar, molasses, vegetable oil, margarine, drinks and confectionery," Dmitry Murev, Director General of Russian Railways Logistics JSC, said. "This is a big volume and if a continuous logistics chain from Russia to Uzbekistan and in the opposite direction is created, then the economics of the project would reach very good parameters."

The potential of this corridor is to use the seasonal and climatic complementarity of the assortment offer of Russia and Uzbekistan, to balance the counter traffic flows and to create favorable tariff conditions for its beneficial use by participants in the foreign economic activity of the two countries.

In case of the successful start of the project, it can be scaled by connecting the traffic flows of agricultural products from neighboring countries, which will attract additional transit volumes of cargo transportation to the transport network of Uzbekistan.
