Uzbekistan, Russia implementing numerous joint projects

Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexei Overchuk and Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov discussed joint projects at a meeting held in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent city on April 14, Trend reports citing the Uzbek media.

As reported, Uzbekistan and Russia are implementing 104 joint projects for a total of $5.8 billion.

According to the press service of the Uzbek government, the issues of the activities of the Project Office, created between the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia to further deepen industrial cooperation and expand investment cooperation, were discussed.

“Currently, 104 projects worth $5.8 billion are at the stage of practical implementation,” the Uzbek media noted.

The deputy PMs spoke about cooperation in the economy, cultural and humanitarian spheres, noting that the Innoprom international industrial exhibition held in Tashkent in early April was a vivid example of the growing interest of Russian business in the Uzbek market.

“For three days, the exhibition was visited by 10,000 people from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, Azerbaijan, Japan and other countries. As a result of the exhibition, businessmen entered into investment agreements and contracts for a total amount of over $3 billion,” the Uzbek media said.

In the presence of the deputy prime ministers, agreements were signed on the provision of free technical assistance by Russia to Uzbekistan in the development of the tax administration system and the improvement of the state cadastral assessment system. The total amount of grant funds raised under the abovementioned agreements totaled nearly $60 million.
