BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6. Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) together with Uzbekistan discussed issues of strengthening cooperation to develop the transit potential of the ECO region, Trend reports via Uzbek Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade.

To this end, it is planned to intensify the implementation of transport and communication projects that will facilitate the free movement of goods and services, as well as improve the conditions and quality of life of the population.

In this regard, on July 5 this year, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov received the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization Khusrav Noziri.

During the conversation, Noziri stressed that the chairmanship of Uzbekistan in the ECO contributes to the further expansion and strengthening of partnerships within the organization.

During the meeting, issues of overcoming the challenges associated with the disruption of supply chains and the ongoing global pandemic were also discussed.

The prospects for taking joint coordinated measures for the systematic restoration of transport communications and trade in the region were considered, and this is especially important in the light of the fact that the ECO countries are the largest trading partners of Uzbekistan.

At the end of 2021, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and the ECO countries amounted to $11.1 billion, which is 1.8 times higher than in 2017. With the participation of investors from the ECO countries, more than 5,300 joint and foreign enterprises have been created in Uzbekistan.
