Uzbekistan records growth in potato production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 20. Uzbekistan has produced over 3.4 million tons of potatoes from January through December 2022, Trend reports via Uzbek State Statistics Committee.

The committee notes that this figure increased by 4.7 percent, compared to the reporting period in 2021.

The highest share of potato production fall in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand region (20.9 percent), Andijan region (12.2 percent), Tashkent region (10.9 percent), and Ferghana region (10.5 percent).

Furthermore, the crop output amounted to 179.9 trillion soums ($15.9 billion) from January through December 2022 - an increase of 3.8 percent compared to the same period the preceding year. The share of crop production in the total volume of agricultural production amounted to 51.7 percent.

During the reporting period, Uzbekistan also produced 7.9 million tons of grain and leguminous crops, 11.1 million tons of vegetables, 2.4 million tons of melons, 2.9 million tons of fruits and berries, and 1.7 million tons of grapes.

Meanwhile, agricultural production in Uzbekistan in value terms amounted to 347.5 trillion soums ($30.8 billion) in 2022, which is an increase of 12.95 percent compared to 2021 (302.5 trillion soums or $27.9 billion).
