Uzbekistan imports some 5,000 e-vehicles since start of 2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 12. Uzbekistan has imported about 5,000 of electric vehicles since the beginning of 2023, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at a recent meeting on the topics of energy supply and the introduction of green energy, Trend reports via the press secretary of the Uzbek president.

Referring to the country's State Statistics Committee, it was previously reported that from January through March 2023, Uzbekistan imported 1,668 electric vehicles worth $54.7 million, increasing by 3.6 times, compared to the figure for the first quarter of 2022 (453 cars).

China was the leading electric vehicle-exporting source for Uzbekistan in the reporting period– 1,444 cars. The remaining exporters of e-vehicles were Hong Kong – 183 cars, Germany – 27 cars, South Korea – 6 cars, and the UAE – 5 cars.

In 2022, Uzbekistan imported 2,180 electric vehicles worth $69.8 million – an increase of 1,371 e-vehicles, or 2.7 times, compared to 2021.

Furthermore, taking into account, the sharp increase in the import of electric vehicles, the Uzbek president, ordered to evolve infrastructure for the use of electric cars, thus building additional 3,500 charging stations countrywide over the next three years.

It is expected that by the end of this year, some 900 charging stations will be built.

Back in 2022, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the “On measures to expand the infrastructure for the operation of electric vehicles" resolution, related to charging stations for e-vehicles.

According to the resolution, from January 1, 2024, all newly built shopping and business centers, places of entertainment and recreation, gas stations, hotels, and infrastructure facilities along international, as well as national highways must have charging stations.
