BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. Record-breaking hourly and daily electricity consumption has been achieved in Uzbekistan amid an unprecedented heatwave, surpassing the levels seen during the summer of 2022, Trend reports.
As the Energy Ministry of the country reported, on June 16, 2023, Uzbekistan's electricity consumption reached 242.6 million kWh, which is up by 16.6 percent compared to the total electricity used on the same day in 2022, which amounted to 208 million kWh.
Furthermore, the hourly electricity consumption reached 11,301 MW. This is 18.9 percent higher than the corresponding day in 2022, marking an increase of 1,800 MW. It also exceeds the absolute peak recorded during the summer of 2022 by 500 MW.
For reference, the maximum electricity consumption in 2022 was recorded on July 27, reaching 239 million kWh, with a daytime power consumption of 10,800 MW.
The power plants within the energy system generated a total of 233.7 million kWh of electricity during the day, which is 18.6 percent higher than the corresponding day in 2022, amounting to an increase of 36.6 million kWh.
