Uzbekistan sees increase in consumer price index

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 4. Consumer price index in Uzbekistan increased by 0.54 percent in August 2023, Trend reports.

As the data from the Uzbekistan Statistics Agency shows, inflation since beginning of the year amounted to 3.84 percent - the lowest figure in the last five years. Annual inflation rose slightly to 8.96 percent as of September 1. For the first time in recent years, price growth fell below the 9 percent mark.

Consolidated CPI amounted to 100.5 percent as for August 2023. Average monthly increase in CPI from January through August 2023 reached 0.5 percent. CPI, being the main indicator of inflationary processes in the consumer sector, is one of the key indicators for assessment of socio-economic state of the country.

Earlier this year, International Monetary Fund (IMF) expected the inflation rate in Uzbekistan at 11.8 percent in 2023, increasing by 0.4 percent, compared to the estimated 11.4 percent in 2022 via World Economic Outlook.
