TAHSKENT, Uzbekistan, September 23. The Italian National Association of Manufacturers of Footwear, Leather Goods, and Leather Production Technologies (ASSOMAC) will invest $1.5 million in the development of leather and footwear production in Uzbekistan, Trend reports.
The news followed the recent talks between Chairman of Uzbekistan’s Uzcharmsanoat leather and footwear industry association Fakhriddin Boboev and Managing Director of ASSOMAC Roberto Vago at the International Exhibition of Equipment and Technologies for Leather Processing and Footwear Industry—SIMAC (TANNING-TECH) 2023 in Milan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed Uzbekistan's entry into the international leather and footwear production arena. The Italian partners expressed their readiness to send funds to create a technological center in the leather and footwear industry of Uzbekistan. The center will be engaged in the production and maintenance of equipment for the leather and textile industries.
As per data provided by Uzbekistan's State Statistics Committee, the country has exported about 5.7 million pairs of shoes worth $10.2 million from January through March 2023. Uzcharmsanoat plans to increase the volume of leather and footwear production to 18.6 trillion soums ($1.6 billion) by 2026.
