TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, January 11. Uzbekistan was the main importer of grain and flour from Kazakhstan in 2023, Trend reports.
According to Kazakhstan Railways data, Kazakhstan exported 9 million tons of grain and 2.2 million tons of flour in 2023.
Uzbekistan remained the major consumer, purchasing 4.5 million tons of wheat and flour in grain equivalents.
At the same time, Kazakhstan Railways announced that the primary export transportation plan for 1.5 million tons of grain shipments in January 2024 had been approved. Uzbekistan bought 1.2 million tons.
Furthermore, the number of trains dispatched to Uzbekistan increased substantially, reaching 32-33 trains per day in early January 2024.
Earlier, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan agreed to create a joint working group to remove barriers to bilateral trade.
The volume of bilateral trade has grown almost 2.5 times over the past seven years, from $1.9 billion in 2016 to $4.6 billion in 2023. The sides also noted the possibility of increasing trade turnover to $10 billion in the coming years.
