TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 18. Emirati Masdar will build a 300 MW solar power plant and a 75 MW electricity storage system in Uzbekistan's Kashkadarya region, Trend reports.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on the implementation of the project on March 15.
According to the degree, Masdar won the tender for the construction of the solar power plant in May 2023.
The company established Nur Kashkadarya Solar PV LLC to implement the project on the basis of a public-private partnership.
Expected foreign investments in the project will amount to $250.5 million.
Meanwhile, Masdar signed an agreement with Uzbekhydroenergo JSC on exploring the possibility of building pumped storage hydroelectric power plants throughout Uzbekistan.
Despite an extensive portfolio of clean energy projects (Masdar's solar and wind power developments with a total capacity of 1.4 GW were introduced into Uzbekistan's energy system in December 2023), this agreement represents the company's first entry into Uzbekistan's pumped storage hydro sector.
In addition, Masdar's total investment in Uzbekistan has reached $4 billion, with 1.4 GW of green energy from its projects now part of Uzbekistan's national power grid.
