TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, April 23. Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy and the World Bank (WB) jointly launched the Clean Energy for Buildings project, Trend reports.

According to the WB, this project, worth $143 million, will boost energy efficiency in public buildings and create a better framework for clean energy investments in the building sector.

Within the framework of the project, the Intersectoral Energy Savings Fund (IESF) under the Uzbek Ministry of Energy will finance activities improving energy efficiency in buildings under the Ministry of Pre-school and School Education and the Ministry of Health, located in rural and urban areas.

According to the bank, the duration of implementation of the project is 2023–2028.

Uzbekistan plans to modernize and refurbish over 500 social facilities across the country, including pre-schools, schools, hospitals, and polyclinics, to improve their energy efficiency.

Meanwhile, WB's total loan amount for Uzbekistan amounts to $4.5 billion.

The data from WB shows that $3.5 billion has already been allocated to Uzbekistan, while $567.1 million can still be drawn down. The country also has $3 billion in debt to the bank.
