TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 5. Uzbekistan Railways and Turkmenistan Railways Agency discussed the expansion of freight traffic, Trend reports.
The matter was reviewed at a meeting between the Chairman of the Uzbekistan Railways Board, Zufar Narzullaev, and the Chairman of the Turkmenistan Railways Agency, Azat Atamuradov.
The parties discussed important issues of expanding bilateral cooperation in the railway sector, particularly the extension (prolongation) of tariffs for railway transportation, as well as the establishment of cooperation in the modernization of the freight and passenger car fleet.
In addition, both sides agreed to work on the introduction of competitive tariffs and efficient use of railcars in order to increase transit traffic. These issues create significant opportunities for further development of regional trade and transport links.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have reached an agreement to implement an electronic permit exchange system known as E-permit.
Furthermore, an interagency working group will be established to address transportation problems efficiently. Starting in 2025, fees and payments will be collected on a parity basis between the two nations.
