85 percent of voters cast ballots in Iranian presidential elections: Guardian Council (UPDATE)

The latest figures show that voter turnout is 82 percent in Iranian presidential vote, IRINN quoted Iranian Guardian Council spokesperson Abbasali Kadkhodai as saying. 

The early predictions placed voter turnout at 70 percent of illegible voters. The latest figures suggest voter turnout is 85 percent, he said.

He added that irregularities were rare during the vote. Iranian citizens living broad showed high turnout; the number of voters who cast ballots abroad was three times as much as the previous elections, Kadkhodai said.

He said number of voters in Tehran increased 50 percent and 20 in other areas compared to 2005 presidential elections.
