Real unemployment level in Iran higher than official data
The real level of unemployment in Iran is two times greater than the officially announced statistics, the ILNA news agency quoted Seyed Mohammadali Mousavi, a member of the Iranian Parliamentary Commission for Social Affairs, as saying.
According to official statistics, the unemployment level in Iran is 13.2 percent. The figure includes persons working one hour per week, servicemen, housewives and students.
The unemployment level in the country in 2008, which increased to 25 percent, was again reduced to 11.8 percent in 2009, which is significantly below the government's promise to keep the figure at seven percent and to create an additional 1 million jobs.
