A new generation satellite Fajr has already been tested and handed over to Iran's Aerospace Organization to launch into orbit, Managing director of Iran Electronic Industries Ebrahim Mahmudzadeh was quoted as saying by ISNA.
He said the satellite will remain in orbit for a year and a half. "A GPS system has been installed at the Fajr satellite, which is a significant achievement," Mahmudzadeh said.
Photos from the satellite will be used in the field of hydro-meteorology and cartography, he added.
The first satellite Umid of the Iranian production was launched into orbit on Feb. 3, 2009 with the Safir rocket caries. This event coincided with the 30th anniversary of the anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, which is marked in early February. Iran first sent the living organisms to orbit in early February 2010.
