Iran 's steel consumption increases by 50 percent

Iran 's steel consumption makes up 300 kilogram per capita which will increase by 50 percent to 450 kilograms per year, IRIB reported quoting Managing Director of Mobarakeh Steel Company Mohammad Masoud Samiinejadas saying.

"Considering country's development plans, the steel consumption is increasing and is expected to reach 14 million tons steel sheets over the next five years," he said.

Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) steel production in 2011 reached 11.4 million tons ranked seventeen major steel producer in the world.

According to latest reports issued by World Steel Association, Iran produced 1.5 million tons of steel in June and compared to the same period of the last year, the volume increased by 12.6 percent. The country over-passed the world's major steel producers in term of production growth.

During first six months of 2011, world steel production reached 757 million tons, indicating 7.6 percent growth compared to the last year.

Asia produced 484.8 million tons while 72 percent of Asian market steel production belonged to China, Europe produced 93.3 million tons in June and South America production growth made up 4.09 percent.
