Iran denies any "direct contact" with US since terrorism plot

Iran on Friday denied comments by the US State Department that the two countries have had direct contacts over Tehran's alleged terrorism plot to kill the Saudi ambassador in Washington, DPA reported.

There have been no direct contacts between the two countries and we deny the US claims in this regard, the spokesman of the Iranian mission at the United Nations in New York, Alireza Miryussefi, told Mehr news agency.

Spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Thursday the US government has had "direct contact" with Iran since alleging that an Iranian-linked assassination plot had targeted the ambassador on US soil but declined to disclose further details.

The United States and Iran have had no diplomatic ties for over three decades and the country's interests in Tehran are represented by the Swiss embassy.
