The Iranian government's promise to create 2.5 million jobs by late this year (Iranian year ends on March 20) is highly likely, Mehr News quotes Iran's Labor Minister as saying.
Based on reports from Iranian Center, 2.6 million Iranians are unemployed and there are 1.2 to 1.3 million entries to the job market annually, Iran's Labor and Social Security Minister Abdolreza Sheikholeslami said.
Saying that creating 2.5 million new jobs is a big task, Sheikholeslami said the government is working hard to achieve this goal and is very hopeful in this regard.
The minister said the drop in the participation rate is not necessarily linked to a shift in the labor market. For example, a woman looking for employment before may prefer not to work and stay at home today, so the economic participation rate would naturally drop, Sheikholeslami said.
Therefore, the government does not consider the decreased economic participation rate as a worrisome issue.
