The "Action Line C11: International and Regional Cooperation" acclaimed prize was awarded to the Islamic Republic of Iran at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2012 in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday, IRNA reported.
The "Action Line C11" is considered as a pivotal prize in WSIS Summit 2012.
The WSIS Forum 2012 opened in Geneva with the special address by United Nation Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on May 14.
The event will be wrapped up on May 18.
The World Summit on the Information Society was a pair of United Nations-sponsored conferences about information, communication and, in broad terms, the information society that took place in 2003 in Geneva and in 2005 in Tunis.
One of its chief aims was to bridge the so-called global digital divide separating rich countries from poor countries by spreading access to the Internet in the developing world.
