Navy Rear Admiral Abbas Zamini told Fars news agency that besides the Jamaran destroyer, the over the Velayat destroyer has been finished by 70 percent in the Caspian Sea port of Anzali.

The Sahand destroyer will be finished and launched this year, the admiral added.

Iran is designing and producing several types of Moj (Sahand) and Sina (including Joshan, Derafsh and Peikan) destroyers.

The Jamaran was the first domestically manufactured destroyer. It can carry helicopters and is equipped with torpedoes. It is 94 meters long and weighs over 1,500 tons. The warship is capable to operate in surface, air, and underwater.

The Jamaran destroyer first set sail for the north of the Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Aden on October 9, 2010. It has so far saved dozens of Iranian and foreign cargo ships from pirate attacks in the international waters.
