Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast on Monday denounced the Canadian government for freezing assets of the Iranian government in Canada, IRNA reported.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran holds the Canadian government responsible for violation of international regulations," said Mehmanparast.
He said an Ontario judge's order on freezing of Iran's assets in Canada is against the UN Charter as well as the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations and the 1963 convention on consular ties.
The immunity of the Iranian government and its properties, as a well-established and lasting principle of international law, is the most fundamental pillar of inter-governmental relations, said Mehmanparast, adding that if such a principle is ignored this way and under political considerations, this would mean disorder in international system, which is based on equality of sovereignties.
An Ontario judge has issued a restraining order against Iran's property in Canada - including its embassy in Ottawa and a former cultural centre in Toronto.
Mehmanprast said the political motivations behind such a move are not hidden to anybody.
"The fact that Canadian courts target the Iranian nation's properties immediately after suspension of political relations and closure of Iran's Embassy in Canada clarify motives of the Canadian government," said Mehmanparast.
He stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran strongly rejects claims about its alleged complicity in terrorist acts anywhere in the world, while condemning such political move of the Canadian court.
He said Iran holds the Canadian government accountable for violation of international regulations.
He urged immediate cessation of such a trend and said, "Obviously, the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right for political and judicial actions against such a move by the Canadian government."
