Cargo plane crashes near Tehran (PHOTO/VIDEO) (UPDATING)

13:25 (GMT +4) General Shahin Taghikhani, the Iranian army spokesman, said in an interview with Iran’s state news TV channel that the crashed cargo plane belonged to the Iranian army.

12:28 (GMT +4) Latest reports claim the crashed plane was transporting meat to Iran from Kyrgyzstan.

Iran’s emergency service chief, Pirhossein Kolivand, referring to the flight engineer, said that 16 passengers were on board.

11:42 (GMT +4) Nasser Charkhsaz, the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), said the plane was heading to Karaj’s Payam International Airport. It crashed at Fath Airport for reasons still unclear, he noted.

Because the runway was short, the plane went off it, collided with nearby residential areas and fire broke out.

Meanwhile, Iran’s emergency service chief, Pirhossein Kolivand, said seven bodies have been found and recovered from the crash site so far.

The flight engineer is alive and has been taken to a hospital, he added.

10:51 (GMT +4) A Boeing 707 cargo plane has crashed while landing in Fath Airport, located in Karaj in Iran's Alborz Province, 40 kilometers west of the capital Tehran, Spokesman for Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization Reza Jafarzadeh told Mehr News Agency, Trend reports.

He said the plane took off from Bishkek heading to Karaj’s Payam International Airport, but, mistakenly tried to land in Fath Ariport.

Reportedly, 10 crew members were on board.

A helicopter, ambulance cars, as well as firefighter teams have been sent to the scene.
