Iran sees increase in imports of eggs

TEHRAN, Iran, Sep.15

Trend:

Iran to import 10,000 tons of eggs in coming days while measures have been taken to stabilize egg market in next two weeks, said the Egg-Laying Hens Union, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

Hamid Kashani has indicated that the new government has provided permit for import of eggs and in the first step 10,000 tons of eggs will be imported to the country.

He noted that the union has previously warned officials in previous months about increase of production inputs that caused instability in egg market.

"The price of egg will be reformed soon, the current price of dozen of eggs is 380,000 rial (about $9), however the set price for this product is 430,000 rial(about $10) that recently caused chaos in the market," he said.

The supply of inputs have improved by order of Minister of Agriculture that would help resolving production issues and egg market would reach stability in next two weeks.

The official expressed hope that import of eggs and determining new price would increase egg production and stability in the market.
