BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13. Iran's crude steel consumption in the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024) increased by 12.7 percent compared to the same month of last year (from March 21 through April 20, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Steel Consumers Association said, Trend reports.
Based on the data, Iran's crude steel consumption for the first month was 2.82 million tons. Contrarily, 2.5 million tons of crude steel were consumed by the nation in the same month last year.
The statistics indicate that the consumption of steel products in Iran for the first month amounted to 1.65 million tons. Steel consumption decreased by 1.6 percent compared to the same month last year. In the same month last year, Iran consumed about 1.68 million tons of steel products.
Furthermore, the statistics added that the country consumed approximately 3.73 million tons of sponge iron during the first month. Consumption increased by 9.7 percent compared to the same month last year. The consumption was about 3.4 million tons in the same month last year.
However, the consumption of iron ore pellets and concentrate in Iran stood at 10.8 million tons in the first month. Iron ore pellet consumption increased by 6.5 percent year-on-year. In the same month of last year, 10.1 million tons of iron ore pellets were consumed.
To note, Iran's steel production potential is about 40 million tons per year. Iran plans to increase its steel production capacity to 55 million tons by 2025.
