Iraqi PM terms Iran's role in restoring security as 'constructive'

(IRNA) - Iran's Ambassador to Baghdad Hassan Kazemi Qomi conferred here Sunday with the Iraqi Premier Nouri Maliki on issues of mutual interests along with regional developments.

At the meeting, the Iraqi prime minister underlined the significant role of Iran in restoring security in the war-stricken country, reports Trend.

Iran plays a very effective role in Iraq as well as the entire region, he said adding, "We do not blame ourselves for seeking Iran's assistance to help restore stability and tranquility in Iraq," There is no doubt that restoration of security and tranquility in Iraq would have positive impacts on Iran as well as all other neighboring states, he said.

A high level committee of Iraqi ministers of commerce, economy and industries is to be formed to follow up contracts inked between Iran and Iraq, he said adding that the committee would be chaired by the prime minister.

Appreciating the invitation extended to him by Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he welcomed the invitation and said would visit the country at the earliest opportunity.

Kazemi Qomi, for his part, voiced Iran's readiness for expansion of all-out cooperation between the two countries.

Iran and Iraq joint borders are among the safest in the region, he said adding, "We have received no threats from Iranian borders up to now."

The Islamic Republic of Iran has tried its best to restore tranquility in Iraq by holding the recent conference of foreign ministers of Iraq's neighboring states plus Egypt in Tehran during July 8-9, he pointed out.

High ranking Iranian officials have always called for restoration of security in Iraq as well as assisting the country's during its reconstruction era, he underlined.

Iran has granted a credit line of dlrs one billion for reconstruction of Iraq, he said adding that the amount might rise in case of demand.

At the meeting, the Iraqi premier described the outcome of his recent visit to the Persian Gulf littoral states as 'positive'.

"We have called on all neighboring states to help us restore security in the country and avoid interfering in our domestic affairs," he said.

The Iraqi premier strongly condemned the recent savage atrocities of the Zionists in Lebanon and called on all international organization to immediately intervene to halt their (Zionist) aggression.
