Iran Materials 1 August 2006 13:00 (UTC +04:00)

(Hurriyet) - Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Lebanese Prime Minister Fuat Siniori two nights ago at midnight to express sorrow for the attack against Qana, which wound up in the death of many women and children. Erdogan reportedly repeated to Siniori Ankara's insistance that the UN issue an immediate cease-fire in the region, and Siniori responded by telling Erdogan that Lebanon "trusted" Turkey, and believed that Turkey would stand up for their rights, reports Trend.

Erdogan also told the Lebanese leader that he believed the 7 point plan for peace issued by Siniori last week was a good basis for work in the region. Erdogan, in a speech to the nation this week, characterized the current fighting between Lebanon and Israel as "a war which is not right."
