(IRNA) - Iran cannot be deprived of its right to use civlian nuclear energy, a leading German Mideast scholar told IRNA on Thursday.
"No member of the international community can be forced legally to abandon nuclear energy," said Christian Hacke, who teaches political science at Bonn University.
Iran has said repeatedly it is ready to give guarantees that the nuclear program is merely for generating electricity and made clear that any UN sanctions will put the Iran-International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) cooperation at risk, the German scholar said.
He said Tehran has reaffirmed its commitment to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and safeguards agreement of the IAEA, reports Trend.
All Iranian nuclear sites are presently under surveillance of the UN nuclear agency and cameras of the agency are monitoring the country's nuclear sites, he added.
