About 320,224 metric tons of aluminum ingots were produced in Iran during the last Iranian fiscal year (ended on March 21, 2014).

The figure indicates an increase by 15.5 percent year on year, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported on Sept. 16 citing parliament's Research Center.

Over 1.155 million metric tons of aluminum ingots were produced during the Fourth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (March 2005 to March 2010).

The country's aluminum ingot output stood at 915,800 metric tons from March 2011 to March 2014.

It was previously announced that Iran plans to increase its annual aluminum ingot production capacity up to 910,000 tons by the end of the Fifth Five-Year Economic Development Plan (March 2015).

The country's current aluminum ingot production capacity reaches 475,000 metric tons per year, according to the report.

Iran's ranking in production of aluminum has increased by four steps since 2005 to stand as number 22 in the world aluminum output.

Officials say Iran plans to book the 14th rank in the global aluminum production by the end of the 5th Economic Development Plan (2010-2015).

According to Iranian officials, the country's current per capita consumption of aluminum stands at 4.5 kilograms, while per capita aluminum consumption worldwide now stands at 6.5 kilograms.
