Iran launches shipping routes for exports to Russia, Kazakhstan

The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) has launched routes to Russia and Kazakhstan for exporting goods to the two Caspian Sea states, said IRISL Managing Director Mohammad Hossein Dajmar.

Two sailings per month from Iran's Anzali Port to Russia's Astrakhan Port and from Iran's Amirabad Port to Kazakhstan's Aktau Port, and one sailing per month from Anzali to Aktau and from Amirabad to Astrakhan will be carried out, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on June 7.

Iran's government adopted a policy to launch regular shipping routes to countries that can be export destinations for Iranian goods, Dajmar noted.

"To this end, we have embarked on launching shipping routes to Caspian Sea states," he said.

Russia was the 18th leading importer of Iranian non-oil goods in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2015, according to the Iran Customs Administration.

Iran exported $296.5 million of non-oil goods to Russia and imported $667.1 million of non-oil goods from that country.

Meanwhile, Kazakhstan was the 20th leading importer of Iranian non-oil goods in the previous Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, 2015, according to the Iran Customs Administration.

Iran exported $205.1 million of non-oil goods to Kazakhstan and imported $175.9 million of non-oil goods from that country.
