Iran exported 19.5 tons of trout to Russia via Astara customs, Bahram Pourzarb, head of the veterinary department of Astara city, said.

The consignment worth $105,376 was shipped from southern Iran, Pourzarb said, IRNA news agency reported Sept. 21.

This is the first trout cargo to be exported through Astara during the current fiscal year (started March 20, 2016), the Iranian official added.

Russia has recently obtained an official permit to export fish products to Iran.

The press service of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said last week that starting from next week fish products may be supplied to the territory of Iran from all 467 Russian enterprises and ships that have the right for EU exports.

Earlier, Iran said it saw no obstacles for Russian supplies of fish products to the country.

Iran currently exports fish, sea and milk products to Russia.

According to Isa Golshahi, an official with the Iranian Fisheries Organization, about 22,000 tons of shrimp and fish, worth $70 million, were exported from Iran to Russia in the first five months of current Iranian fiscal year (started on March 20).
