Iran expects that the domestic rice production level would reach 2.2 million tons (MT) in the current fiscal year (started on March 21), director of the Iranian rice producers association, Jamil Alizadeh said during a live interview with IRIB TV.
He added that during the current year, it is expected that the needs for rice stands at 3 million tons, then some 800,000 tons of rice should be imported.
According to the latest statistic of Custom Administration, Iran imported $508 million rice during seven months of current fiscal year.
