The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has expressed readiness to invest in infrastructure in Iran, IRNA news agency reported November 16.
The announcement was made in a meeting between Iran Minister of Road and Urban Development Abbas Akhondi and AIIB President Jin Liqun in China.
During the meeting, Liqun said that the AIIB attaches high significance to the fact that Iran is a founding member of the bank.
In particular, he said the AIIB is interested in taking part in the reconstruction of old urban and suburban areas.
Akhondi, in response, suggested that the AIIB dispatch a delegation to Iran to investigate the situations.
He said that Iran is in particular interested in financing projects from overseas sources under build-operate-transfer (BOT) and build-lease-transfer (BLT) contracts.
