Tehran, Iran, February 5
By Mehdi Sepahvand –- Trend:
Iran has stopped issuing permits for the construction of methanol production factories, according to Farnaz Alavi, director of planning at the National Petrochemical Industries Company.
Since March only two permits were issued, one for a urea factory in Kermanshah and another for a similar factory in Chabahar Zone, she said, Mehr news agency reported February 5.
“The current policy is we are considering methanol in the downstream sector of the petrochemical industry.”
Iran’s urea output stands at 5.5 million tons, ammonia output at 4.5 million tons, and methanol output at 5 million tons.
Once underway projects come on stream, the methanol output will reach 20 million tons, and urea and ammonia output will together hit 19 million tons, meaning half of the country’s petrochemical output will go to these three products.
