Iranian company to make Hyundai cars

Kerman Khodro, an Iranian carmaker, is expected to produce three Hyundai brands in the Islamic Republic.

Saman Firouzi, the head of Kerman Khodro, has said that under a deal with the Korean car manufacturer, Kerman Khodro will produce three brands of i10, i20 and Accent at its site in the Arg-E Jadid Special Economic Zone in the southeastern province of Kerman, Tejarat-e Emrouz
news website reported.

He added that the company is expected to produce 17,200 cars over the current year.

According to the official, 20 percent of the spare parts for the new cars will be produced in Iran and the share of homemade spare parts will increase to 40 percent over the coming years.

Kerman Khodro has targeted producing 150,000 units by 2021, Firouzi stated.

Iranian automotive industry is projected to form at least 4 percent of the country’s economic growth by 2025.

The country’s carmakers accounted for 2.2 percent of Iran’s economic growth over the last fiscal year (ended March 20, 2016) with a contribution of about $9.1 billion (294 trillion rials).
