By Fatih Karimov – Trend:

German investors will build a windfarm in the Iranian province of North Khorasan, Yahya Nikdel, head of the province’s Industries, Mining and Trade Organization, said.

The pilot wind farm will be capable to generate 1 megawatts (MW) of electricity, Nikdel said, IRNA news agency reported Feb. 25.

A German delegation will visit the province in coming weeks to finalize the talks and start the project, the official said.

A trade delegation headed by Mohammad Reza Salehi, governor of North Khorasan province visited Germany early this week to seek cooperation opportunities following the removal of international sanction against Iran.

The Iranian government and policy makers have set an ambitious goal of reaching 5GW of renewable energy production by 2020.

Currently, renewable energy comprises a tiny share of 0.01 percent in the oil-and-gas-rich country’s energy basket.

According to the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran, there are 15 wind farms operational in Iran but there is 100,000 MW of potential capacity from wind alone.
