Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (RAI) and Russia’s railway machine-building company Transmashholding have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly build wagons in Iran.

The wagons will be built by Iranian and Russian companies while the finance will be provided by the Russian side, RAI public relations told Trend March 29.

The number of wagons or details about the financing have not been mentioned. Meanwhile, RAI said that the wagons will include both freight and passenger models.

In early March, Russia’s United Wagon Company also signed a deal to supply 6,000 freight wagons to Iran within three years, of which 4,900 cars will be produced inside the Islamic Republic.
