A senior Iranian MP has urged the country’s industrial officials to consider the two issues of domestic production of spare parts and exports of outputs.
Aziz Akbarian, the head of the parliamentary commission of industry, has said that the carmakers should realize that their products are not merely produced for domestic consumption.
Addressing a conference on the automotive industry in Tehran on Tuesday, he added that the recent fluctuation of currency has created obstacles to the activity of the carmakers in Iran.
Akbarian, who also holds the post of the deputy speaker of Iranian parliament, urged for modernizing the country’s automotive industry, saying that parliament will continue to extend support for the carmakers.
About 1,200 car part makers are actively contributing to the industry in Iran and they sold worth of $8 billion of products over the last fiscal year.
Iran’s car imports over the first ten months of the current fiscal year (starting March 20) surpassed 58,874 units, 6.05 percent up year-on-year.
The value of imported cars accounted to $1.565 billion, ranking first among the country’s imports in value term.
Auto parts ranked the second in the list as the value of Iran’s imports of auto parts in the 10-month period reached $1.4 billion.
Over 1.253 million cars were produced in Iran during the period, 15.2 percent more year-on-year.
